Board Certified Diplomate in Periodontology
Yailin Diaz Pichardo, DMD, MS
Dr. Yailin Diaz was born and raised in Camagüey, Cuba, where she developed an early passion for science and healthcare. She earned her Doctor of Stomatology degree with honors from the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey in 2012. During her dental training, she served as a Periodontics Fellow for three years, contributing to multiple scientific publications and presenting her research at national and international conferences.
Following graduation, Dr. Diaz expanded her clinical experience through a General Practice Residency in Venezuela, where she provided care in underserved communities, including high-risk “Red Zone” areas, for two years. During this time, she treated patients with limited access to care, further strengthening her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered dentistry. After completing her residency, she owned and operated a private dental practice in Venezuela while also maintaining a hospital affiliation, where she provided care on a weekly basis. This combination of private practice and hospital experience allowed her to develop a comprehensive approach to both routine and complex patient care.
Dr. Diaz moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue advanced training at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester, where she earned her Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree. During her time there, she was selected as Chief Resident and played an active role in education, helping teach AEGD and GPR residents as well as general dentists in periodontal and implant surgical techniques. Her research focused on biological complications of implant-supported full-arch restorations.
Dr. Diaz is a Board-Certified Diplomate in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery and an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, and the Virginia Dental Association. She co-hosts a Spear Study Club in Lynchburg alongside Dr. Ryan Anderson, fostering collaboration and continuing education among local dental professionals.
She has extensive training in advanced periodontal and implant procedures, including IV sedation, laser-assisted therapy, minimally invasive mucogingival procedures, and complex bone regeneration. Dr. Diaz has also received advanced training in the use of L-PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), titanium-free implant solutions, and the application of neurotoxins (Botox) as part of comprehensive dental care.
Since relocating to Lynchburg in 2021, Dr. Diaz has been proud to serve a community known for its strong sense of connection and family values. She is passionate about building long-term relationships with her patients and contributing to the health and well-being of the community.
Outside the office, Dr. Diaz places great value on time with her family. With her siblings also residing in the Lynchburg area, she feels deeply connected to the community and is grateful to raise her son, Manuel, alongside her husband in such a supportive and welcoming environment. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the arts, spending time outdoors, and creating meaningful moments with those closest to her.
